Ambassador Mehdiyev attends the State Department's international conference on "Threats to Religious and Ethnic Minorities under Da'esh" in Washington DC - 2016-07-29

 On 29 July 2016, representing HE Mr. Iyad Ameen Madani, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ambassador Mehdiyev, Permanent Representative of the OIC to the UN in New York, attended the international conference on "Threats to Religious and Ethnic Minorities under Da'esh" at the US State Department in Washington DC.

Hosted by Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom David Saperstein and Special Advisor for Religious Minorities in the Near East and South/Central Asia Knox Thames, the conference addressed the threat posed by Da'esh and other violent extremist groups in Iraq and Syria to members of religious and ethnic minorities, facing violence, rape, enslavement and murder. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave opening remarks to the attending delegates from more than 25 countries, the UN and regional organizations.
