OIC Group of Ambassadors Met With the President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly - 2017-03-10

 On Friday 10 March 2017 the OIC Group of Ambassadors who were members of the OIC Contact Group on Rohingya issue had a meeting with H.E. Peter Thomson, President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly to discuss the situation of Rohingya minority in Myanmar and explore ways on how the United Nations could take up a greater role and put more efforts and resources to address the issues of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.


The visit aimed at conveying the message and concerns of the OIC Member States to the president of the UN General Assembly and through him to other members of the United Nations.


Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations H.E. Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi spoke on behalf of the OIC Group of Ambassadors in his capacity as the coordinator of the group. He expressed serious concern over the situation of Rohingyas in Myanmar and emphasized that the issue needed to be given more attention and importance.


 The meeting took note of the suuferings of the Rohingya minority in Myanmar and agreed on further action and coordination and resove the issue and provide humanitarian assistance to the people there. The President of Security Council stated that he will do whatever he can in this regard.
