OIC Permanent Observer met with the US Congressman and State Department Officials - 2017-05-03



Within the framework of the US- OIC cooperation and to further strengthen relations with the US Administration, the OIC Ambassador to the United Nations in New York met with the US Congressman André D. Carson in latter’s office in Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. 


In the same spirit and during the same period, the OIC Ambassador held a separate meeting with the Officials from the US Department of State. These two meetings took place on 2nd May 2017.


The purpose of these visits was to reconfirm OIC’s commitment to this partnership and further strengthen OIC’s bilateral relationship with the US Government and the US Congress.


During these meetings, both sides discussed issues of mutual interest and ways to further improve relations between the OIC, the US Congress and the US government and build on the longstanding partnership between the OIC and the US governments in various areas of mutual concern and interest.


The OIC Permanent Observer to the UN and the US Officials emphasized that addressing challenges and difficulties is crucial in order to execute joint programs and projects in various areas.


The OIC and the US have been cooperating on various issues including on matters related to human rights, terrorism, protection of minorities, humanitarian and health related matters including maternal and child health and resolution 16/18 also known as Istanbul process on Combating intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of, and discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief.
