Co-partners Advance Track 1.5 Diplomacy for Peace and Prosperity The Organization of Islamic Coorperation (OIC), the United States government, the Institute of Global Engagement and Religions for Peace International co-convened 120 senior governmental representatives, religious and other civil society leaders for a high-level side event during the United Nations General Assembly. The event focused on advancing strategic partnerships between governments and faith-based civil society organizations for peace and prosperity. International Conference on the Change in Muslim Societies and the Role of Women The International Conference on the Change in Muslim Societies and the Role of Women is to be held on 22-24 December 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey with the participation of the Ministers, Parliamentarians, academicians and representatives of civil society from the OIC and non-OIC member states. The discussion of the issues related to women’s role in the process of democratization and new constitutional preparations, the relationship among democracy, gender equality and Islam, the promotion of civil society and regional cooperation will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience among Muslim communities, and will further strengthen the cooperation among the OIC member states. read more

OIC Appeals to the Member States for Aid to Somalia Due to the critical situation and the need to mobilize all Member States and institutions to come to the aid of the famine-affected Somali people, which has affected three million people with over a million, most of them women and old people, displaced in Mogadishu, on 11 July 2011, the OIC launched, through its Humanitarian Coordination Office in Mogadishu, an emergency relief project as first step to benefit a large number of displaced people, and started with distribution of emergency food relief and non-food items to 300 families for a month. read more
