The meeting underscored that in order to bring about substantial and lasting progress for women’s empowerment, religious leaders have a special role to play, given their social influence and moral authority. It was observed by many that in various contexts religious arguments have been misused and misinterpreted to justify injustices against women. Therefore, Collaboration with religious scholars and leaders on the subject would not only protect women from being targeted by wrong ideas and bad practices but would also support efforts to improve the status of women in economic, political, and social arenas.
The meeting highlighted that omen’s empowerment was not possible without their full participation in economic, social and political arenas. For this to happen, women must be able to seek and obtain educational and professional opportunities and religious scholar’s efforts towards women education and education about rights of women should strengthen and expedite the process of women’s empowerment.
